QLD Heat and Under 23 Women State Team Officials

Softball Queensland is proud to announce its Under 23 and Open Women’s panel of coaches for the upcoming National Championships in December 2024 and January 2025 respectively.

Anne Vogler returns for a second consecutive year as Head Coach of the Under 23 Women’s team after winning gold in Adelaide in December 2023. Anne also backed up as an Assistant Coach of the Open Women’s team (Heat) where the team won silver. Anne has previously coached Queensland in the underage programs as well as Australian teams.

Joining Anne as her assistant coach will be Brooke Penfold, a three (3) time Olympian. A second assistant coach will be appointed in coming weeks.

The Australian Under 23 Women’s Championships are being held at Brisbane Softball Association at Downey Park, Windsor, Tuesday 17-Sunday 22 Dec 2024

In announcing the new Heat (Open Women’s) Head Coach, Softball QLD CEO, Ross Symonds wants to pass on his and Softball QLD’s thanks to Kevin Jenkins for his support and time given to the Heat program over the past five years. During this period, the team twice won the silver medal. Kevin has decided to take a break from representative coaching for a while.

Moving into a new phase of the Heat program, Softball QLD has appointed Kym Tollenaere as its incoming Head Coach. Kym’s resume has seen her involved in various representative softball programs as Assistant Coach - Aussie Spirit 2015-2018, Performance Training Centre Coach - Aussie Spirit 2019-2021, QLD head coach Under 17s for 3 years 2015-2018, and has coached teams and athletes in Italy at various levels of competition.

Kym is a leader both on and off the softball diamond who has high standards, strong communication skills and an understanding that people learn differently.

“I am thankful for the opportunity that Softball QLD has given to me and I look forward to leading this team at Nationals and into the future. QLD has a great group of experienced and young athletes moving through the program and I am excited for what the future holds with this team”, said Tollenaere.

Joining Kym as her assistant coaches will be one of the incumbent assistant coaches, Tyson Howard, and new to senior women’s coaching Chelsea Forkin, one (1) time Olympian (Toyko 2021) and former Heat player.

The Open Women’s Nationals (Gilley Shield) will be held in conjunction with the Under 14 Girls Regional Championships at Waverley Softball Association, Melbourne, Tuesday 7 Sunday – Sunday 12 Jan 2025.
